Hybrid @ System Soundbar
February 21, 2003
Review by Gregor Davidson

Christopher Healings and Michael Truman own System Soundbar! I have attended several events at System over the past few years, and no act consistently tears the roof off the club like Hybrid.

At each and every gig I've been lucky enough to witness, the two Welsh geniuses "bringthebeats," never wasting a track during their sets. Their musical pieces each have a unique moment during the performance as every individual track significantly influences the entire set. At previous shows, Truman offers up a dark, methodically progressive beat and Healings a funky and driving breakbeat. However on this night the music was absolutely unpredictable. Often it was Truman dropping the breaks; such as the sick mix of Underworld's "Dinosaur Adventure 3D," laid down at the climax of the evening. Healings was uncharacteristically mellow, as he displayed during the rendition of Junkie XL's "Breezer," a track that instantly put the club in a joyful mood, but left him stoic as ever.

Overall, another solid show by a completely underrated duo. The time has come for North America recognize, as Europe has for years, Hybrid's excellence. Cheers to John for hanging with the crew to the bitter end. One word - Savage!
